Make A Difference Day

TEAM Special Olympics     The Athletes

2002-2005

TEAM Special Olympics serving the community.

Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.  Special Olympics athletes and volunteers participated by cleaning up the Five Star Trail from Lynch Field in Greensburg to Youngwood.

The athletes who participated are members of the Special Olympics Westmoreland County Cycling Team.  They feel it is their obligation to help maintain the same trail that they use to train on from May until August of each year.

Just part of the "stuff" cleaned up from the trail.

We found lots of junk around the trail.

Although we cleaned up the entire trail, we refused to get "tired"!

One more bag and we are done.

Let's eat!

Joe goes to get that one last bag.

In 2006, we were honored by USA Today Weekend Magazine for our 2005 Make A Difference Day project.  Projects from across the country were nominated by local newspapers and voted on by judges selected by USA Today Weekend Magazine.  We thank the Tribune Review for following our project over the years and for their nomination.
