Thanks
to our great community, we have a home to call our own.  Our facility, located on property provided by the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 354 near Youngwood, gives our cycling program a secure future with plenty of space for growth.

The facility was built entirely with donated materials and labor making our facility a reality, rather than just a dream.

The 660 square foot cycling facility is important to our program for many reasons:
  • Provides secure storage for up to 100 bicycles as well as all of the other required equipment and supplies, such as helmets, tools and first-aid kits.
  • Gives us the opportunity to train even when it rains, using our trainers to convert our bicycles to stationery bikes.
  • Located adjacent to the Five Star Trail, it gives us safe access away from vehicle traffic.
  • Gives our program an permanent, physical identity to attract much need volunteers.

Project Timeline:
  • November 2002 - the idea for our own facility was conceived.  After securing a lease on a 200 square foot storage unit in Greensburg, the directors realized that in order to grow the program to accommodate more athletes, a large permanent building was needed.

  • October 2004 - on a cold and rainy day, ground was broken by the athletes of the Cycling Team.  We finally knew that after nearly two years, our dream was going to be a reality.

  • May 2005 - the footers are completed and the concrete block walls started.  Construction continues over the summer when volunteers were available and materials are obtained.

  • October 2005 - knowing that the building completion is in sight, the bicycles are moved from the storage unit to the home of one of the Cycling Directors for temporary storage.

  • November 2005 - the building is fully-enclosed in time for winter.

  • May 2006 - interior painting is completed, shelving installed and the bicycles and other equipment are moved in.

  • June 2006 - the cycling season begins and we are home in our new facility.

  • September 2006 - exterior painting is started and expected to be finished prior to winter.

  • Left to be done - landscaping, paving the entrance to the trail, installing bike hangers to increase storage space and concrete installation for a port-a-john.

We are extremely proud of our accomplishment and know that we could not have done it without those who donated materials, labor and funds.  We wanted to make this a community project and the response was overwhelming.  This was a project by our community to help us serve our community.
