In 1969, 37 athletes and 12 volunteers participated in a track and field meet at Pitt Stadium, marking our humble beginning. Today, close to 600 athletes assisted by over 900 coaches and volunteers participate in sports training and competitions at the county, regional and state levels.

Villanova University has been a part of the fabric of Special Olympics Pennsylvania (SOPA) since 1979 and is the official host of the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Fall Festival state games each November.
